Francis D. Murnaghan was professor of mathematics, The Johns Hopkins University (1928-1949). He was born in Omagh, County Tyrone, Ireland in 1893. He studied at the National University of Ireland before coming to the United States in 1914. Murnaghan received his Ph. D. from Hopkins in 1916 and taught briefly at the Rice Institute.
